Logan RADF walk gently

I am grateful for receiving funding through Logan City Council’s round 49, Regional Art Development Fund (RADF) grant.
I'll be presenting a group exhibition, Walk Gently, with Gillian Richards and Kelly Lindsay at Logan Art Gallery in June/July 2023 after being mentored by Dr. David Jones to expand printmaking skills and Dr. Louise R Mayhew to implement practical business strategies.

Interwoven print exchange 2022

Interwoven invited multiple artists from all over the world to explore the symbiosis between animals, plants, and their personal environment in the context of a shifting climate. Forty handmade and digital prints will adorn the walls of the South Australian Museum’s front foyer, inviting viewers to engage with the artists’ vision.

This free exhibition is on display in the South Australian Museum front foyer from 26 September to 23 October 2022.

Lost without you
The Richmond Birdwing Butterfly (Ornithoptera richmondia), the largest butterfly in subtropical eastern Australia, is only found in rainforests in the coastal and hinterland parts of South East Queensland and northern New South Wales. Due to threats from habitat destruction as well as the introduction of Dutchman’s Pipe (a Category 3 Invasive Plant in Queensland), they are now listed as a Vulnerable species in Queensland.

The caterpillar has only two legitimate food sources, the Birdwing Butterfly Vine (Pararistolochia praevenosa) and Mountain Aristolochia (Pararistolochia laheyana) at higher altitudes. The Birdwing Butterfly Vine has been listed as Near Threatened in Queensland. These vines emit pheromones to attract the butterfly, but the invasive Dutchman’s Pipe’s scent is so strong that the butterfly prefers it over the Birdwing Butterfly Vine. Sadly, when eggs are laid and hatch on the Dutchman's Pipe the caterpillars die from eating their poisonous leaves.

a stitch in time... solo show 2022

You are invited to my solo show at Revival Art & Design Gallery

16 - 27 March 2022.

Revival Art & Design Gallery

3/17 Greg Chappell Street, Albion, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Tues - Sat, 9am -4pm

Sun, 10am - 2pm

Referencing a need to restore our relationship with nature, a stitch in time…consists of three series. Flourish, Happy memories, and My happiness celebrate the preciousness of our connections with nature.

All relationships begin with getting to know each other.

In these series, silhouette shapes of Banksia integrifolia and various birds create easily recognizable images referencing profile shadow portraits of the 18th and 19th centuries which were popular in Europe before photography. Stitching throughout the works refers to spending time with and caring for our environment.

My happiness series emphasises our connection to all things seen and unseen.

I would often walk to the local duck-pond, and it would make my day to see all the various wildlife, especially the little fairy wrens. Near where the wrens darted in and out of the hedges they called home, prolonged construction in the park frightened them away. I live in hope for their return, bringing with them my happiness.

International Cairns-based artist Brian Robinson of the Maluyligal and Wuthathi peoples of the Torres Strait and Cape York Peninsula.

I was inspired to make this print for an exhibition last year titled Ecowomen 1 after researching an important eco woman – D'harawal Elder Aunty Francis Bodkin – who holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with five majors, one of which is Environmental Sciences. She combines her indigenous culture's science of observation and experience with modern science of experiments and measurements in order to share a deeper understanding of how to care for our natural environment.

Sanctuary
Donna Malone and Rachael Lee create drawings and prints in response to Nature’s capacity to not only nurture and protect herself but also the feelings of humility and gratitude she magnifies within the artist’s spirit.
Inspired by childhood bush adventures and instilled through current observations of local natural environments, Donna and Rachael’s artworks are a celebration of Nature as Sanctuary.

Shortlisted public art concept design for Logan Hospital Car park Facade 2020

My concept design for the Logan Hospital Car park Facade was shortlisted for public consultation in August 2020 for Metro South Health.

The design comprises of silhouettes of the stages of growth of the Banksia integrifolia which is Logan City Council's logo. It shows changes in leaf shape as it matures from tooth edge leaves as a juvenile to smooth edge adult leaves, representing the role of the Logan Hospital in nurturing people from birth to end of life.

A light grey fills the silhouettes representing the underside colour of the Banksia leaves.

Brown surrounds the silhouettes to symbolise the natural surroundings.

Stripes of colours represent the vibrant multi-cultural community of Logan.

You can view the shortlisted designs on Metro South Health's Facebook page

Systems group exhibition 2018

Systems is an exhibition that celebrates the diverse and curious biological systems of Australia’s living world.

Presented alongside the Australasian Systematic Botany Society’s (ASBS) 2018 conference, Mind the Gap, this exhibition showcases South East Queensland-based artists who take inspiration from living systems, revealing links between art, science and nature. From ecosystems and biodiversity, to the intangible interconnections between humans and nature, Systems draws attention to a broad range of themes in a variety of artistic mediums such as jewellery, sculpture, installation and print.

Artists featured: Renata Buziak, Donna Davis, Nicola Hooper, Alinta Krauth, Rachael Lee, Sandra Pearce, Paula Peeters, Clare Poppi, Tanya Scharaschkin and Svetlana Trefilova.

Systems is curated by Melissa Fletcher, supported by Queensland Herbarium.
